Our Story

Heartland Work Ethic — International Success

Headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri, Farmland Foods operates independently as a member of the Smithfield family of companies. In the fifty years since our founding, Farmland has grown to approximately 8,000 employees. As a valued part of Smithfield Foods, Farmland helps account for over a third of the total American pork processing capacity annually. How do we do it? It’s simple: here in the heartland, people believe that success comes from hard work, ingenuity, and a true commitment to quality. At Farmland, we’ve held that belief close since 1959. Farmland’s Keys to Success:

  • Hiring and developing exceptional talent
  • Creating value for the customer/consumer
  • Embracing innovation
  • Developing and maintaining strong business partnerships
  • Focusing on fiscal responsibility
  • Creating an environment that rewards creativity

Growth through subsidiary partners is also an important part of Farmland’s success. In 2006, Farmland acquired Cook’s Ham through our parent company, Smithfield Foods. Cook’s produces quality corned beef, smoked hams and other smoked meats for supermarket chains and independent grocers. Our efforts have paid off: Farmland has earned a reputation among our business partners, customers and employees as a company of trust, quality and value.

The Farmland Mission

To be a financially sound marketer and producer of high quality pork products for the retail, food service and international markets and to drive profitable growth through the wise deployment of capital and marketing investments that yield success and stability for our customers, employees and the shareholders of Smithfield Foods, Inc.
