Fresh pork is now an average of 31% lower in fat and 29% lower in saturated fat than it was just 20 years ago.

Sodium

Like other fresh meat, fresh pork is naturally low in sodium. A 3-ounce serving has only about 60 mg of sodium. (A processed food is considered to be low-sodium if the sodium content is 140 mg or less per serving.)

Calories and Cholesterol

Pork is a healthful meal option, with 14% fewer calories and 10% less cholesterol than 20 years ago. A 3-ounce pork chop has about 130 calories and 60 grams of cholesterol.

Low Carbohydrate Diets

Pork contains high-quality protein, with less than 2 grams of carbohydrates per serving. Watch out for sauces and glazes that may be high in sugar and/or fruit they will increase the carbs per serving.
